Selling Your Private Label in Amazon

It’s no secret that private label has been making its presence felt strongly. Many have been joining the bandwagon. Even Amazon came up with their own private label. But your private label is still very much welcome in Amazon. Check out how you can sell your private label products.

1. Choose what to sell

Sure you have decided to get into private label. But what will you sell? Are you going to sell wet pet food or dry? Are you just into treats? It’s important you know exactly what you want to sell. Have you done your due diligence and decided on a particular product you want to sell?

2. Check out your direct competition

Now that you’ve decided on a particular private label product, what’s its competition like? Are you just a rip-off? What can you improve on your product? What would your product have that competition does not? How much does competition charge for the same product? There are many questions you can ask yourself to make your private label unique and break away from the pack.

3. Scout for the right supplier

This is the tricky part. There are many suppliers in the States. But you might be surprised at how cost-efficient international suppliers can be. Many suppliers are open to negotiate their prices. It’s just a matter of finding the private label company that can help you build your brand <<insert link: https://privatelabel.addictionpet.com/contact-us/>>

4. Branding development

Some retailers usually start designing their packaging and logo once they have decided on a supplier. But you can already make a headstart even before step 3 because you’ve already decided what to sell after checking out your competition.

There are many design agencies, freelancers, and, if you have the budget, advertising agencies, who can help design your private label product and items. Keep in mind how competition has designed their products. That can be a jumping point for the look and feel of your private label.

5. Create your Amazon listing

Create an Amazon seller account or have an Amazon expert help you set up.  Roughly, it takes 3 to 4 weeks for a manufacturer to create your product, another 1 to 2 weeks for shipping to you or the nearest Amazon fulfillment center. That gives you a window of 4 to 6 weeks to create your Amazon listing.

Here are some pointers to remember:

  • Make sure you have everything handy and ready to publish, from photos, text or copy, illustrations, etc.
  • Be sure that you have great product photos. It’s a must! If need be, hire a professional to take photos of your private label.
  • Your title is one of the most important features of your Amazon listing. Amazon determines where your product will show up when a search is done. It is very important that you use keywords relevant to your title and your product!
  • For example, if you’re selling “raw dehydrated food” and want to rank for that keyword, that exact phrase, “raw dehydrated food”, should be in front of the title.
  • If it’s possible, your secondary and tertiary keywords should follow in order for your listing to rank well.
  • Your product description must contain the strongest features and benefits of your private label. It should be in bullets for easy reading of your customers. Make sure that your listing is a reflection of your customers’ wants and needs.

6. Protect your private label product

Now that your private label has hit the Amazon Marketplace, take these steps to ensure your brand is protected:

  • In your listing title, include the brand name and at least one product photo
  • Do not forget to include your logo on your product packaging
  • If you plan selling outside Amazon, a trademark registration is suggested
  • Enlist your product on the Amazon Brand Registry

7. Consider FBA

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) takes a load off your shoulders as Amazon will be the one who will complete all orders on your behalf… at a small profit of course. Consider the benefits if you take advantage of FBA:

  • No need to prepare and ship orders from day to day
  • Your products qualify automatically in Amazon’s complimentary Prime shipping
  • FBA sellers usually see higher search rankings
  • Returns and customer service concerns are done by Amazon
